Effects of flanking component spectral position and modulation pattern on thresholds for signals presented in the peaks of a modulated tonal masker.

چکیده
Detection of signals added solely to the peaks of an on-frequency modulated masker has never been found to improve after adding flanking components ~FCs! at remote frequencies. However, according to theories underlying comodulation masking release ~CMR!, adding comodulated FCs could provide cues that improve signal detection for signal-peak placement. A reason masking release was not found with peak placement might be because of processes underlying modulation detection interference ~MDI!. This possibility was further investigated by using FCs that could diminish MDI but still provide signal detection cues associated with theories of CMR. It seemed that a peripheral within-channel and a central across-channel mechanism underlying MDI could hinder signal detection for signal peak placement. © 2001 Acoustical Society of America. @DOI: 10.1121/1.1328790#

Word segmentation in Persian continuous speech using F0 contour
Word segmentation in continuous speech is a complex cognitive process. Previous research on spoken word segmentation has revealed that in fixed-stress languages, listeners use acoustic cues to stress to de-segment speech into words. It has been further assumed that stress in non-final or non-initial position hinders the demarcative function of this prosodic factor. In Persian, stress is retract...
متن کاملDevelopmental Conductive Hearing Loss Reduces Modulation Masking Release
Hearing-impaired individuals experience difficulties in detecting or understanding speech, especially in background sounds within the same frequency range. However, normally hearing (NH) human listeners experience less difficulty detecting a target tone in background noise when the envelope of that noise is temporally gated (modulated) than when that envelope is flat across time (unmodulated). ...
متن کاملAn Efficient Hierarchical Modulation based Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Transmission Scheme for Digital Video Broadcasting
Due to the increase of users the efficient usage of spectrum plays an important role in digital terrestrial television networks. In digital video broadcasting, local and global content are transmitted by single frequency network and multifrequency network respectively. Multifrequency network support transmission of global content and it consumes large spectrum. Similarly local content are well ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Tonal Components in Submarine Sonar on Signal Detection and Recognition
Experiments were carried out to determine the effect of various tonal maskers on the sonar operator's ability to detect and discriminate signals Thresholds were obtained for the detectibihty of 60 Hz and 400 Hz and their respective harmonics to 360 Hz and 3200 Hz in the presence of various white noise bands Thresholds were also obtained for detection of amplitude modulated and frequency modulat...
متن کاملVoice segregation by difference in fundamental frequency: evidence for harmonic cancellation.
Two experiments investigated listeners' ability to use a difference of two semitones in fundamental frequency (F0) to segregate a target voice from harmonic complex tones, with speech-like spectral profiles. Masker partials were in random phase (experiment 1) or in sine phase (experiment 2) and stimuli were presented over headphones. Target's and masker's harmonicity were each distorted by F0 m...
